“A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE GOING TO TRY TO TELL YOU IT’S NOT POSSIBLE, BUT YOU CAN DO ANYTHING YOU SET YOUR MIND TO. IT’S NOT GOING TO BE EASY, SO KEEP PUSHING AND PUTTING IN THE WORK, AND YOU CAN GET THERE. DON’T GIVE UP!”
Could you share how you got into racing at a young age, especially your first go-kart event, and what initially drew you to the sport?
I went to a birthday party at a go-kart track when I was 11. I fell in love with karting immediately, loving the speed and adrenaline I got from it. Being from Colorado, I always grew up driving things like four-wheelers or snowmobiles, so I quickly fell in love with karting. My first go-kart race made me love it even more, just the thrill of the competition. I won that first race, which made things all the better.
As a digital influencer, how do you utilize your platform to inspire others, particularly young women, to pursue their dreams on and off the racetrack?
I like to use my social media platform to show women that you can achieve anything you put your mind to. A lot of people doubted that I would get to the point I’m even at in my career right now, but proving them wrong and showing the world that I am able to might inspire other women to go after their own dreams. If I can change the mindset of just one person, that would make everything worth it.
How has Danica Patrick’s career influenced your own, and what lessons have you gleaned from her journey?
The career of Danica Patrick for sure influenced my own. She has achieved so much in her career, and it made me think from a young age: if she can compete against all the men, why can’t I? I hope I can continue to grow in my career and achieve great things like she did.
Reflecting on your experiences from TC America and US FORMULA PRO Championships, what are your most important lessons in racing?
My previous racing seasons have taught me to keep pushing and not give up when things get tough. I had to take almost five years off from racing due to financial purposes and getting my business degree, so I have a lot less experience than most of the drivers on the grid. When I didn’t get some of the results I wanted, I would be super hard on myself, but it’s important to continue to work hard, have self-improvement, and get better lap by lap. If I can continue to do this, then the results will follow.
How have these lessons shaped your outlook and fueled your determination to succeed?
These lessons have taught me that self-improvement and confidence are key to being successful in racing, and this has fueled me to become the best possible driver I can be. If I am always hard on myself and have a negative outlook on the result, then that will continue to be the case. If I try to be positive and focus on self-improvement, good results will follow.
In the demanding world of motorsports, how do you prioritize self-care and maintain balance amidst rigorous training and competition while leveraging your platform for advocacy and partnership opportunities?
Maintaining balance in my busy life is very difficult for me. I want to be the best driver possible, so training is essential, but I always make sure to make time for the people I love. I usually like to plan special days with my friends or boyfriend. For self-care, I usually go to the beach, read a book, or watch Netflix. It is challenging to keep up my social media, training, and social life.
Apart from the thrill of racing, how do you integrate mindfulness and spiritual practices into your routine to enhance your success?
I try to keep a clear head on race day. I listen to my favorite music an hour before a session and try to keep to myself.
How do you perceive your career influencing the future of women in motorsports, and what plans do you have for leveraging your platform to advocate for greater inclusion both within and beyond racing?”
I hope to continue the work that other female drivers have done to create a more inclusive environment in racing. If I can use my platform to inspire other young women in racing and other fields to go after their dreams, then I think I am doing my part to continue this trajectory. Ideally, in the near future, I want to work with young female drivers to help them get access to higher levels of motorsports.
Why do you think women in racing are compelling partners for brands today?
Women in racing offer brands a unique perspective of the amount of work it takes to be in such a prominent male sport. It’s a unique opportunity to tell our stories and inspire young women to go after their dreams.
What achievement stands out as the most significant throughout your career, and why?
I think my best achievement would be either winning the US National Legend Car Championship in 2015, but also being the first American female driver to compete in IndyNXT since 2007 is pretty cool as well.
What advice would you offer to young girls aspiring to pursue a career in racing?
A lot of people are going to try to tell you it’s not possible, but you can do anything you set your mind to. It’s not going to be easy, so keep pushing and putting in the work, and you can get there. Don’t give up!
During the challenging moments of your career, which inner strengths have you relied on?
I’ve relied on my self-confidence, determination, and inner strength to not give up when times get hard. I also have a great support system around me of my family, friends, team, and significant others to help, and I am so grateful for that.
As you progress in your racing career, how do you stay connected to your core values and identity as a woman in a male-dominated sport?
I always will stay connected to my feminine side, even though I’m in a prominent male sport. Whether that’s doing my makeup or hair before a race or having fake nails, I always like to show my feminine side. You can be feminine and a badass at the same time.
What personal goals do you hope to achieve on and off the racetrack?
I hope to win, of course, but if I can improve every race weekend and bring home the best results I possibly can, then it’s like a win for me. I hope to continue to work on my self-growth and confidence on and off the track as well.
Reflecting on your journey, what trait do you find most challenging about yourself, and how do you work to improve it?
I am very hard on myself. I am confident, but I am such a perfectionist that when things don’t go the way I want them to, it’s hard for me to be positive in that moment. I need to work on this.
Do you have any regrets in your career, and what lessons have you drawn from them?
Everything in life happens for a reason, and I don’t live with any regrets. Sometimes I wish I could have pushed harder in my training or I should have spent more time on the simulator, but I try not to think of these things that are in the past.
Which living person do you admire the most, and how have they influenced your perspective on life and success?
I admire my mother the most. She is so caring, hardworking, and selfless. She has taught me kindness. I also admire my father. He taught me to keep working and to never give up.
If you could change one thing about yourself, how would it impact your journey as a racer and influencer?
I wouldn’t change anything about myself. I guess maybe I would make myself more of a morning person. I NEED sleep, and it’s hard for me to get up early.
What strategies do you employ to prioritize mental health amidst the demands of your career?
Sometimes, I have to put my phone on Do Not Disturb and just lie down to read a book or play video games. Just doing that for myself helps my mental health and keeping a clear head.
What defines perfect happiness for you outside of the racetrack?
Laying on the beach with my loved ones, enjoying the sun and listening to great music. I love the beach and the water.
